The Joint Select Committee on Australia’s Family Law System was appointed by resolution of the Senate on 18 September 2019 and resolution of the House of Representatives on 19 September 2019 – here is Divorce Justice’s submission to the inquiry; our proposal is to offer online uncontested divorce for free, and, offer an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) service that uses Artificial Intelligence (Ai) to help couples solve contested issues, quickly, easily and cheaper than using lawyers. We want to offer this Ai driven ODR for a flat monthly fee, thus replacing the unpredictable billable hours model

The ALRC’s recommendations will ensure that the law provides a framework that assists families who are experiencing relationship breakdown to make arrangements for their children, property and financial affairs. ALRC President, the Hon Justice Sarah Derrington, said, “These recommendations seek to ensure families have access to a dignified and efficient process that resolves disputes effectively and at the lowest cost financially, emotional and psychologically, while also giving primacy to the interests and safety of children affected by those disputes.”

September 2019: The Prime Minister announced the Government will undertake a Joint Parliamentary Committee of both the House and the Senate to conduct a wide-ranging inquiry into the family law system. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the review would look at whether the current system, which is intended to support parents and children during the end of a relationship, is fit for purpose.
